Firewalls
- Software that segregates internal functions such as accounting, sales, human resources, and product development, and control the flow of information among them. They are gatekeepers to protect sensitive information at the TCP/IP level from electronic intruders or hackers. It is a means of laying down a challenge to a hacker from changing prices or financial data. All products should be certified by the National Computer Security Association's Firewall Certification program who rate them for security management, performance and features.
Security
- This includes such issues as 40 to 168 bit encryption, public keys, DES II Certification, secure servers, clipper chips, routing, tunnelling, and authentication methods.
SecurID - this is a popular product that identifies network and system users and prevents unauthorized access. $32,000 (1000 Users);$57,000 (1000 tokens)
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
- Intranet managers outsource private remote corporate Web access to Internet Service Providers (ISP's). They take private data, such as IP and IPX packets, and securely transport it over the web by encapsulating or tunnelling them inside other IP packets for routing.
Proxy Server
- Software that runs in place of a given internet service such as Telnet, FTP, HTTP and SMTP, providing a safe and secure front end.
Router
- A system capable of routing traffic by encrypting it and
encapsulating it for transmission across an untrusted network for
eventual de-encapsulation and decryption.
