Running RemoteDesk
from a Server
using local Workstations

** Special Note: RemoteDesk remains a single user system at this time, however, with these steps, you may have your choice to run the RemoteDesk Administrator from a number of worskstations on the network while having the programs and data centrally located.
    RemoteDesk can be installed on a central server and then run from that server from local networked workstations. There are a few considerations and setup required on each of the workstations that will access RemoteDesk. This should be performed by a technical support person.
  • Install RemoteDesk on the local workstation

      This is necessary so that Registry and Database Engine support is available locally. Once it is installed, you can use Windows Explorer to delete the \RemoteDesk program and data directories from the local PC.

  • Edit the Windows Registry for RemoteDesk

      Run a program called REGEDIT.EXE which is found in the \WINDOWS directory on the local PC. A form is displayed Open the directory "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". One of the sub-directories will be called "Bravo RemoteDesk". Click on "Process Options" One the right side of the screen, several fields are displayed. Double Click on the "Main Path" so that the data path can be changed to point at the central server data directory for RemoteDesk. Using a mapped drive is necessary for this.

  • Copy two files from the server after RemoteDesk is installed

      There are two files that must be kept on the local workstation for RemoteDesk. One is the "BRAVO.INI" found in the \Windows directory of you server. The other is "DMSOLE.DLL" found in the \Windows\System directory. Copy these two to the local workstation PC \Windows and \Windows\System directories respectively.

  • EDIT the BRAVO.INI file

      You must change the data path to point at the server drive.
      Find the section:
      [Process Options]
      ....
      RemoteDeskDirectory=E:\REMOTE~1
      Edit the drive letter of the mapped drive for the server where RemoteDesk is installed.
      Save the file.

    IMPORTANT CAUTION

      Workstation users must be locked out of Company Profile screens since this can only be modified via the actual central server user.
