Moving a RemoteDesk database and program to another PC

  • You may need to move a RD database if a PC has died or if a system is just being replaced. This allows you to keep all data and the registration with the Administration system. Note this process works for moving the server data too.
  • IMPORTANT - never allow two PCs with the same remote ID to communicate with the Admin PC, This will corrupt the sequencing and likely the security handling.

To move the RemoteDesk programs and data to another PC.
    • 1. Install the RemoteDesk programs to the new PC from the CD.
    • 2. Run the program on the new PC
    • 3. Enter the Admin or Remote serial number for that machine
    • 4. Its only necessary to go to the main menu then exit.
    • 5. Copy from a backup, the RemoteDesk \database folder to the PC that has just be installed to. Replace the existing \database folder. It only has to be accurate since the last time you registered a remote PC/PPC. All of the master file info customers, items etc will be re-imported. This saves having to re-register, reset up the remote PPC devices etc.
    • 6. From the \remotedesk\database folder, copy the BRAVO.INI file and save it to the \WINDOWS folder. It will replace an existing one.
    • 7. Start RD and it will have all of the registration information. You only have to IMPORT your accounting data and check other data.
