EDI-PAC Success Profile

BRK Brands Canada
Rexdale, Ontario
Distributor for the First Alert brand of home fire safety and security products

Critical Issue:
They were forced to start exchanging EDI documents with two trading partners, receiving the 850 purchase order. Their current accounting system could not handle EDI integration, and without direct posting it would not be true EDI.

Requirements they were looking for:
Wanted a system that would take the EDI information and post it directly into a back end accounting system. The system criteria that had to be met were product flexibility, ease of use and quick response. They wanted the power to do the mapping, implementation and setup of new trading partners themselves. Because EDI was becoming a way of doing business, they wanted the control, and a solid and expandable solution. They were also working on a tight deadline, so the solution had to be up and running by a specific date.

BSG provided:
They replaced a remote mainframe system with ACCPAC Plus because of its inability to integrate to EDI, along with the Pro_EDI translator, and EDI-PAC software for the ACCPAC integration. We trained them on the translator functions so that they could add new trading partners, update implementations, add new transaction sets and mapping tables.

Results:
Today they are pro-active, and have spread the EDI skills throughout their organization. Since 1992, they have added 16 more companies that they are exchanging EDI transactions with, and added 34 EDI transaction sets to their system. Typically these are inbound purchase orders, in and outbound invoices, and outbound advance ship notices.

Current System:
BRK runs ACCPAC Plus with 2 file servers running Novell, and 25 workstations. With ACCPAC Plus accounting and EDI-PAC they are able to meet these needs. When EDI demands expand, BSG is there to enhance EDI-PAC to meet new challenges.

A Closing Statement:
Bruce Hunter, controller at BRK Canada

"The EDI-PAC integration with a commercial EDI translator gives us the power to add new transactions and trading partners, without costly delays or reprogramming. BSG has provided us with a solution that we can grow with, control and become pro-active in".
"We have been up and running now since November of 92, and are pleased with the simplicity and ease of running this system .... I am confident to recommend your solution to any company that wants to do EDI the right way."
"It was true value for the money."
